This does not take into account the additional time costs of a visit to the dentist, such as getting there, waiting time and returning home.
However, we would like to emphasise that it is always better to incur these costs than to lose a tooth, as this would inevitably be much more expensive.

- Speaking and swallowing: You should be able to talk and swallow with the gum shield on without it moving or becoming uncomfortable.
- Comfort and no gagging: The gum shield should not sit too far back to avoid gagging and should provide general comfort.

Can you talk with a gum shield?
Yes, you can talk with a custom-made gum shield like Dental Armor's, but usually not with the cheap boil-and-bite versions from the internet.
The ability to speak clearly depends on the fit and design of the gum shield. A properly fitted gum shield should fit tightly without slipping, while still leaving enough room for tongue movement and easy breathing.
It may take some time to get used to the feel of the gum shield in your mouth and speech may be slightly impaired at first.
However, with time and practice, most people should be able to speak relatively normally with the gum shield in place.
